Repainting your home and swapping out old décor for new is an obvious way to increase the appeal of your home, but have you ever considered redoing your closet? Renovating a closet can add a refreshing touch to any bedroom. There are two basic types of closets, and a variety of things you can do to make them look brand new.

Walk-In Closets

Walk in closets can be a valuable asset to your home. With much more space available in a walk-in closet, there are multiple options for renovation. The first thing to consider is the storage units in your closet. Do you have permanent shelving, or moveable units? Is there enough storage, and does the storage need updating or remodeling? Cleaning out your closet is also essential to maintain a clean and organized look. Donate clothing and shoes that you no longer want or wear to keep your closet contents updated. While you have all of your clothing out of the way, the next step is to repaint. Often closets are left unpainted, causing them to look a bit dingy. Choose a light clean color to make your walk in closet appear bigger.

Reach-In Closets

While reach-in closets do not have as much space as walk-ins, there are still plenty of things you can do to make this type of closet elegant and well organized. As with a walk in closet, the first thing to do is assess the storage units within the reach in (or perhaps a lack of storage). Thin shelves are best for reach in closets, which have very limited space. Another thing to consider with reach-in closets is whether or not you want to keep doors on them. If you have a newly renovated reach in closet you might opt to keep the doors off. If you don’t want to show off your clothing and décor, freshly painted doors will give your closet a nice clean look.
